Tub-thumping call to bring back cane


 After corporal punishment was outlawed in state schools in the UK in 1987, private schools were still allowed to use it. A survey the following year showed most such schools had banned it, but less so in the north of England.

Here a local newspaper columnist riles against the ban and calls for a new movement to reintroduce the cane. Is Geoffrey Rumney being entirely serious? You decide.
