Schoolteachers hotly disputed a claim from
the anti-corporal punishment lobby group STOPP that there was a link between
caning and pleasure. ‘In some cases, children who are beaten can develop a
liking for it,’ a spokesperson said.

ReplyDeleteI wonder what "social damage" means, if it's something separate from physical damage and the risk of kids starting to enjoy being caned.
Also interesting that in the 1980s the NUT secretary could make the assumption that parents would see it as normal to spank their own children. And that therefore it wasn't weird if teachers spanked them as well.
