Movie: Housemaster Clip 2

A clip we saw of Housemaster, the 1938 film, is one of the most visited on this blog. It shows Bimbo, bent across two chairs in the ‘Winchester’ fashion as Mr Donkin delivers a very authentic-looking six of the best. The clip is below for those who haven’t seen it (or want to enjoy it again).

The clip below that comes later in the film. The plot is that the boys at an English public (that is. elite) school object to a new headmaster who unleashes a welter of puritanical reforms. They take out their frustrations on the schoolmasters.

In this scene the boys – played by actors well into their twenties – rag the science master, who gets the last laugh.

Picture and video credits: Network video and Studiocanal films.

  1. There is a third scene where boys have been playing up in town and are being sent to Mr Donkin. While he awaits their arrival he prepares for punishment by putting the chair in position and taking out a couple of canes. He is just testing them when the headmaster interrupts him. We don’t get to see the boys return or their canings.
