TV drama: Unleash Your Dreams: 4
In our latest look at the
South Korean TV drama Unleash Your Dreams (sometimes translated as Realize Your Dreams) two
boys get caught smoking and (in this series anyhow) the inevitable happens.
The series dealt with serious
issues at high school including the use of corporal punishment, examination
stress and sexual harassment.
It was broadcast by EBS [Education Broadcasting System] in 1999 and ran
for 52 episodes over a year. It was repeated several times.
The series was not intended for English audiences so there are no subtitles. Sometimes, it’s difficult to follow the plot and as in the case of the exaggerated reaction from the smokers you can’t be sure if it’s meant to be a comedy. Perhaps, it’s not; since at the end of the first clip a boy needs medical attention after a severe beating.
In the second clip two boys get a severe paddling from the teacher (who’s enjoying himself way too much) in front of the class and later their fellow pupils think it’s one big laugh.
