Remembering Nobby
Correct me if I’m wrong but Nobby is one of the
forgotten characters from British comics.
He first appeared in
Buzz comic in 1973 which was so
unsuccessful owners DC Thomson merged it with The Topper.
Nobby,
drawn by Bob McGrath, was old-fashioned even in the 1970s – a boy in short
trousers with (among other things) carts, model yachts, and telephone sets made
from a couple of empty tins and a piece of string.
The teachers were way out of date too. They didn’t
have mortar boards, but they did have gowns and the curve-handled cane, as this
decidedly odd strip (date of publication unknown) demonstrates.
