Movie: Tom Jones

 

Tom Jones is a film based loosely on the book of the same name by Henry Fielding.

One of the best remembered characters is Mr Thwackum (a not very subtle name), the Reverend who is also Tom’s tutor as a boy.

He sees no contradiction in the fact that he is a supposedly good Christian, but he also regularly beats the tar out of Tom. “I chastise you no out of hatred, but out of love!”

Thwackum is played by Peter Bull.
