Painful history lesson with the strap
I think we know that going to school in the 19th and
early 20th centuries was somewhat different than today.
Here’s an exhibition that reminds us if you stepped
out of line, you could expect be lashed with a small whip until you bled, or
beaten on your hand with a thick leather strap.
A mini museum
set up in what was previously a one-roomed schoolhouse has some exhibits to set
the pulse racing.
The Little
White Schoolhouse museum is in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Here Matt Zolkivski, a
summer student in 2018, shows us a few of the straps.
