TV: Commercials to make the eyes water
Here’s another “kinky” mainstream television
commercial. Remember, we already met the “schoolboy” who was trying to take away
the pain of a headmaster’s caning by sucking an extra-strong mint here.
Now, fast forward ten years or so to the 1990s and we
have a guy bending over to have his backside slippered.
It was in a commercial for the soft drink Still Tango.
It must have been one of the potentially most disastrous new product launches
in history. Britvic took all the fizz out of its Tango drink and sold it
as a ‘still’ drink. Problem was it fermented on the shelves and became alcoholic.
In this commercial the man responsible for the
disaster gets his punishment. I know this is slightly “off topic” for this
blog because the man wielding the slipper is his boss, not the headmaster. But
what the hey ...
And to prove it’s not only the English who do this kind of thing, many of us (especially from the United States) will know this movie theatre (as I believe our American cousins call “the pictures”) announcement from Spring Mobile.
While we have our minds on commercials, here’s a YouTube link to the Footlockers sneakers commercial (that I’m sure we’re all familiar with) that is more than a little “off topic”.
