Movie: Melody revisited
Here’s a chance to revisit Melody – the 1971 movie also known as SWALK that had among its stars Jack Wild (as Tom) and Mark Lester (as Daniel). They had been
huge hits as the Artful Dodger and Oliver Twist in the mega-award winning
musical Oliver! Ken Jones plays the Latin master.
Here’s a longer version of the
clip we saw here.
The two boys don’t do their
homework and are summoned to the Latin master’s study. Before they go they
visit the toilets to stuff towels down the back of their trousers.
Jack Wild almost reprises
his Oliver! role as the Artful Dodger; he is street wise and cheeky. Mark
Lester, like Oliver, is more reserved.
The Latin master clearly
believes he is a bit of a character. He’s certainly an oddball and not just
because he names the slipper he uses to smack the boys, Julius Caesar.
Melody is available on DVD
and for streaming.
